I’ve decided to let this blog post to Twitter

I’ve bailed on Twitter since Elon Musk took over and have no plans to return there as an active user. I do genuinely believe it is in decline, but I’ve also accumulated a heck of a following there over the last few years.

A lot of people haven’t come over to Mastodon either (you should, it’s great), and now I’m getting back into writing some proper content, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to let this blog post out there automatically. Jetpack makes that easy and I know a lot of folks still rely on Twitter to discover posts (RSS is great for that, pals).

I’m justifying this as a perfectly good use of the POSSE: Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere. Elon Musk doesn’t deserve content, but as I see it, I’m just posting links to my content that I own.

Now I’ve had a long period of time away from Twitter, I’m less resolute to boycott it, but I also don’t want to go back there because the mental health benefits of not being on the hell site have been incredible. This new outlook feels like a happy medium until the eventual downfall of Twitter. I also don’t regret deleting my tweets and creating my own archive of them.

The beauty of POSSE is that when stuff gets beyond bad on Twitter, all I have to do is turn a checkbox off on my website. I’m in control of that: not a petulant man-child Billionaire.

What I won’t do is respond to comments on Twitter though. I absolutely do not want to go back there, so if you want to discuss stuff, pop a comment on my actual blog instead!
