My top 5 albums released in 2022
2022 has been a damn good year for good new album releases, so I thought I’d recommend my top 5 for you.
5. Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 9 2022), by Fred again…
Bloody hell this album is good. I’d never heard of Fred again… and stumbled upon a video of him playing some outrageous breakbeats on a sampler a couple of months ago. He’d just released this album and I then listened to it obsessively for weeks.
It’s nice dance/electronic/ambient stuff. The sample work is stunning too.
4. Euthanasia, by Stray From the Path
I used to say Subliminal Criminals was my all time favourite Stray From the Path album, but this one hits different. It’ll blow your brains out.
As always, the lyrics are great; they’re angry as fuck. If you’ve not heard them before, think Rage Against the Machine, but more metal.
3. PLOSIVS, by PLOSIVS
I listened to this album so much in the car this year, my daughter now asks for the “red music” whenever she gets in the car lmao.
It’s great, jangly, smart and catchy indie music with a bit punk in there.
2. Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, by Kendrick Lamar
It couldn’t be a 2022 favourite album list without hip hop. I spend the vast majority of my time listening to hip hop after all.
This album is really great. Kendrick Lamar has always had his own, definitive style and he really leans into it and matures it on this album. There’s not a bad track on there!
1. Raw Data Feel, by Everything Everything
This is one of my favourite bands and this album might have to unseat one off my top ten albums of all time.
It’s just perfect and “Leviathan” still makes me cry a bit every time I listen to it. It’s such a beautiful track.
If you were to pick just one off this list, it has to be this one.
